The techniques that you learn at a fad or hybrid style club may be useful for self defence. My main concern with these type of clubs is the quality of the instruction.
MOST of the time, the instructors in these styles are poorly trained, often failed in other styles and simply attended a short course in this style to gain a certification. They are the worst case of McDojo.
