What is Krav Maga?
I get asked this a lot. Krav Maga is not a typically a Martial Art or a sport, it is a system of fighting used extensively by modern elite military and law enforcement units, and is now available for civilians in Stavanger and Sandnes for use in self defence.Krav Maga was created and developed by Imi Lichtenfeld (1910-1998). It began as a way of surviving gang violence in the 1930s and 40s. Development continued through to the 1980s whilst Imi was serving as Chief Instructor for hand-to-hand combat and combat training for the Israeli Defence Force. The term Krav Maga means "contact combat", it covers a multitude of styles and interpretations of the original system. Since the beginning the system has been studied, tested, improved and developed extensively not only as modern warfare changed but also to reflect trends in violence.
Who can learn Krav Maga?
The system is specifically designed to be learned by anyone very quickly. It was originally developed so that any member of the armed forces could be taught effective fighting skills in a short period of time. From your first class you will be better prepared! The Krav Maga Club of Stavanger and Sandnes offers a fast training program that is structured and organised to take you from the basics of Krav Maga right up to the real black belt status. Here we know that your goal is to truly learn to be able to defend yourself and your loved ones against violent situations. You will quickly grow in skills and in confidence, and you will get stronger both (physically and mentally).
What will you learn in a Krav Maga class?
You will learn to deal with attacks and scenarios that are statistically more common in urban environments. Your training will focus heavily on these common attacks and realistic threats to ours and our loved ones' safety. From prevention, avoidance, escape and verbal de-escalation techniques thought to unarmed and armed attacks featuring, edged weapons, force multipliers, impact weapons and firearms.
At the Krav Maga club of Stavanger and Sandnes I will teach you adaptable tools and fluid concepts, through dynamic principles instead of “one size fits all” technique for any situation. This way you will learn quickly, ensuring your new skills can adapt to unknown situations and scenarios. All the concepts and techniques that you learn must work against an opponent who is not compliant. We drill with a high degree of energy, understand that a violent attack is never a static in any confrontation. The Krav Maga Club of Stavanger and Sandnes uses a simple approach to learning, correct repetition of correct technique. The most effective defence against an assault will become automatic, so that in actual confrontation they will be available to you naturally and immediately. Techniques and training methods emphasise the ability to function from a poor state of readiness, we often begin training from the neutral stance and move from a passive to aggressive state immediately. The instructor will incorporate realistic re-enactments, teaching you how to operate under stressful conditions.
Authentic Krav Maga teaches hand-to-hand combat. There is a more advanced and complicated side to the training incorporating elements related to the actual performance of the fight including feints, tactics, powerful combinations, the psychological dimensions of the fight, as well as learning how to use the environment to your advantage. Gradually you will be exposed to this methodology.
